Beckham, Barnes and Brilliance

Sutton Eagles had a fantastic day at the David Beckham Pan Disabillity Tournament. The under 12's played superbly and managed to win all their group games. They reached the semi finals, which went on to extra time, unfortunately missing out on a place in the final, after a late goal by their opposition. They would never have got that far without the safe hands and fearless goalkeeping of Sam Stoneman. Not to mention the dogged and determined defence of Luke Fox and Isaac Tidy. Then there was the creative midfield, with Charlie, William and Alfie all passing the ball around with confident ease, they where the generals on the pitch. Up front we had the creative cunning from the experienced Ferdie Gould with his football brain made a formidable partnership with the explosive power of Jamie Richards who seems to score goals for fun.

However there was one player in the tournament who stood out from all the other hundreds of players coming from as far away as Plymouth. Voted for by all teams is the Player of the Tournament and I am delighted to say for the second year running is a Sutton Eagles player. This year our very own Max Ash won this prestigious title. His undefendable pace, lightning fast feet and relentless determination won the hearts of us all. To cap it all he played with great spirit and sportsmanship, it was fitting that the Legend John Barnes presented Max with a Trophy and signed shirt.

Our thoughts are with Georgie Dawes who was deemed unfit to play and we hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Also best wishes to our Coach Steve King who celebrates his 21st this week. Once again he did a sterling Job, I think Barnsey would do well to get a few pointers from him!

Feltham Bees Tournament March 2009

The day started, with an indifferent mood, with the death of our coach driver, Jim Hoar, on everyone's mind.

However the boys and girls donned their black arm bands, and put on a marvelous display in his memory.

So congratulations to the under 12's team for their fantastic result. The boys and girls played their hearts out, and won every single match (see score sheet on the right). The under 16's did well, with some of the younger boys stepping up to play for the big boys.

Well done to all the Mums who turned up, despite it being "Mothers Day".

*** SUTTON EAGLES YOUTH TEAM ***

As from Saturday 21st October, 2006, Sutton Eagles F.C. will be starting a Youth Team for players of 16 years and over.

This means that the training sessions at Westcroft will be at the following times:

All sessions will still be coached by Crystal Palace F.C. coaches, and the Youth Team will be run with the help and funding of Sutton Mencap.

The age ranges for these groups are not totally rigid, and players will be able to play with the group they feel most comfortable with, as agreed by the coaches.

• A huge thank you to the Creative Partnership for the generous donation of £500. •

Champions World Cup

Well done to everyone who took part in the Champions World Cup on Sunday 14th May. The Under 16's did a great job and made it through to the semi finals where they were defeated by Holland. The Under 11's made a valiant attempt, but faced with much older players on the other teams (one team had a 16 year old in it!) they were unable to make it past the group stages, but I think everyone had a fantastic time and enjoyed the day.

  • Josh Taylor
  • Luke Copping
  • Connor Tong
  • Ferdie Gould

Chelsea Friendly - 12th March

Sutton Eagles had a great time at the friendly match against Chelsea in Wandsworth on 12th March. We managed to keep Chelsea at bay for the first half, finishing the half at a respectable 5-3, but we lost our hold in the second half, and eventually lost 9-4. Despite this, everyone had a brilliant time, and as this was our first friendly match ever, and against recent tournament winners Chelsea, everyone was pleased with the result.

Thanks to:
Alastair Smith, Ben Lankshear, Joshua Taylor, James West, Nicky West, Ryan Pyne, Harry Phillips, Guy Oakenfold, Mason Dearling, Robbie Dearling, Ferdie Gould, Luke Copping, Connor Tong and Thomas Whale for playing a fantastic game!

Volunteers Neeeded!

As you may have noticed, Sutton Eagles F.C. seems to have been growing in size of late, and as the club is run by volunteers (Genevieve, Nick and Grace), we have been finding it quite a struggle to keep on top of everything!
We would therefore really appreciate any help from volunteers in the following areas;

If anyone is interested in helping out in any of these areas, please contact us.

Photos of "Fun Day" and "Feltham Tournament" available on CD Now. Please email us if you would like a copy.
Special thanks to:

Joshua, Lee and Rachel Taylor and Geoffrey and Gareth Moret-Richards for helping to raise £332 for the club at Crystal Palace's match against Sheffield Wednesday in September. Also, a big thanks to Westcroft Leisure Centre for providing the hall for our training sessions.
